All efforts to maintain quality of education in Brunei, says Ministry of Education

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, March 11 (Borneo Bulletin/ANN): Despite the impact of the Covid-19 outbreak on various sectors including education, the Ministry of Education (MoE) will continue to exert efforts to maintain the quality of education in the country.

This total commitment was underscored by Education Minister Dato Seri Setia Awang Hamzah Sulaiman as the guest of honor at the 7th Convocation Ceremony of Politeknik Brunei (PB) at the International Convention Center yesterday.

“The world is still grappling with the epidemic, which has posed challenges to various aspects of our lives. The Sultanate has not been spared, as the pandemic has affected many sectors, including education.

“The Sultanate has also entered the early endemic phase and we have incorporated new norms into our daily life,” he said.

By adopting a whole nation approach, the MoE – through public and private higher education institutions such as PB and working closely with relevant stakeholders – will be “Insya Allah able to produce graduates of high quality that are resilient and vibrant, in line with Brunei Vision 2035,” he said.

The minister pointed out that PB is actively implementing efforts to further improve the quality of teaching and learning to help students adapt to new standards.

Among the initiatives is the use of the PB Learning Management System (LMS) and the PB Virtual Learning Experience, allowing students to access learning and teaching online. It makes teaching and learning more interesting, unique and interactive.

To address the need for deep hybrid learning in the new normal, the Minister said: “The Hybrid Flexible Hybrid Teaching and Learning (HyFlex) pilot project is a course delivery model that enables the implementation of the online teaching and learning, which is face to face in a synchronized physical place.

Awang welcomed the move, seeing it as a move to improve existing BP programs. He also expressed hope that other educational institutions will incorporate the technology to meet the requirements of the new standard.

Acknowledging that PB teaching staff and students were frontline volunteers in clinical centers and national COVID-19 vaccination programs in national vaccination centres, the Minister said: “The experience gained will be very beneficial. It gives them the chance to practice pure values and offers them new experiences that cannot be obtained in the boardroom. Plus, it helps create a network that will come in handy when a student completes their course. »

As the only polytechnic in Brunei, the Minister said, “PB plays an important role in providing quality human resources to support the development and socio-economic progress of the country.

“PB to target initiatives under the Politeknik Brunei Development Plan 2021-2025 in line with Ministry of Education Strategic Plan 2018-2022; The Digital Economy Master Plan 2025 and Economic Master Plan with the main objective being to achieve the goals of Brunei Vision 2035,” the Minister said. – Borneo Bulletin/ANN
