nep: The NEP makes fun of the education system: Academicians Section | India News

NEW DELHI: A section of academicians on Friday stressed the need for a movement like the one led by farmers against three farm bills to demand a rollback of the National Education Policy (NEP), which they say is a “mockery of the education system”.
The leftist-affiliated All India Students’ Association (AISA) held a public meeting on Friday on the NEP and to announce its campaign against it.
During the meeting, Professor Syed Irfan Habib said: “This government and this NEP seek to saffronize our whole culture and daily life.
He said there must be a huge movement, similar to that led by farmers against the three controversial farm bills, to demand that the NEP be reversed.
Rajya Sabha MP Manoj Jha also drew inspiration from the farmers’ movement.
“This (NEP) draft is your farm bill. (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi also fears the streets and popular movements,” Rashtriya leader Janata Dal (RJD) said.
Jawaharlal Nehru University Teachers Association (JNUTA) President Moushumi Basu says education should become a political issue and students and teachers should start a movement like farmers did .
Ratan Lal, a professor at the University of Delhi (DU), said the NEP contains “sounding phrases” and mocks education.
“At Jawaharlal Nehru University and Delhi University, some parts of the policy are being implemented. If some professors raise their voices, they face disciplinary action,” he said.
Another DU professor, Nandita Narain, agreed with Lal, saying the policy was just rhetoric. Talking about the evils of online education, she said the NEP enforces it.
AISA announced the start of a 50-day campaign against the NEP, culminating in a “Gherao Parliament” program during the budget session across the country.
“The movement will undertake different activities across the country, including collecting signatures and protests on all campuses,” the student body said.
