KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Education (MOE) on Thursday, March 17 announced several improvements regarding the implementation of sports and extracurricular activities under the School Management and Operation Guidelines 3.
The Department for Education said in a statement this evening that the guidelines were issued following the decision to allow physical sports and extra-curricular activities outside classrooms involving individuals or groups in the enclosures schools from Monday 21 March.
“In this regard, teachers, coaches and instructors involved in physical sports and extracurricular activities with students should be fully vaccinated,” the statement said.
The MOE also allows sports activities and tournaments to be held on school grounds, but only teachers, coaches and students from the relevant school will be permitted to participate.
The implementation of sports and extracurricular activities on school grounds involving external parties would require the approval of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry has the right to cancel any event if the organizers do not comply with the rules.
“The Department of Education would like to emphasize that all physical sports and extracurricular activities on school grounds must adhere to the guidelines in the Annex for the Implementation of Sports and Extracurricular Activities and Standard Operating Procedures ( SOPs) established by the Department of Health and the National Security Council,” the statement added.
The guidelines also apply to all private institutions registered with the MOE for the schools and centers categories and the ministry has also urged institutions not registered with the MOE to adhere to the same SOP.
